Do Dogs Have Super Powers?

You probably have heard of cases when dogs know things well in advance of an event taking place- when an earthquake or storm is approaching or when a human is going to have a seizure or has certain illnesses? I personally never understood what was happening and how it was possible that my best friend could have what to me seemed like some sort of supernatural power.

I clearly remember the days where a storm was approaching and my dog would be panting, shivering and pacing way in advance of the storm. Or when I was pregnant and my pup would jump on the couch next to me and put her head gently down on my pregnant belly- something she would have never done prior to my pregnancy.

Dogs are just amazing creatures and can sense things in the environment even when we have no idea that they are there. The most conventional belief behind this super power is attributed to their keen developed hearing, exceptional nose and eye view on the world that allows them to sense small movements that escape our attention. For instance, a dog’s sense of smell is 1.000 to 10.000 times more sensitive than a humans.

They can also hear much higher frequencies and at four times the distance of a human with normal hearing. The less conventional explanation of dogs super powers is that dogs sixth sense is connected to the supernatural. Marti Miller –a pet psychologist from Austin Texas- believes that both humans and dogs have a sixth sense but humans judge or deny what they are feeling while dogs don’t judge what is going on in the environment.

Whether you believe that your dog has supernatural powers is a personal opinion and no research has been conducted to this date to confirm the phenomena. With that being said, there is still so much we don’t know about humans and dogs and more and more discoveries are made each year showing that there is more to us than just the physical.

So next time your pup is acting unusual consider that there may be something deeper behind the behavior. Connecting with your pup on a deeper level will build a beautiful and strong bond between you.

Have you ever noticed your pup's sixth sense? I would love to hear your personal experience.....
